Green award program is an environmental award program which is initiated and implemented by Forum for Environment with the financial assistance from Sida/SLUF Environment Program. The annual award program recognizes, acknowledges and celebrates good initiatives and outstanding achievements of individuals as well as institutions in protecting and enhancing the environment. This is hoped to inspire the actors to contribute more in the future. On the top of that, it instigates others to contribute their share for the betterment of the environment, foster political will of the government and donors to invest in the environment.
H.E Green Hero Girma Woldegiorgis, President of F.D.R.E is the patron of the program since its beginning in 2005. Since its beginning, the annual award brought many virtue outcomes. More importantly, the success obtained by stirring the society and the government is huge. Especially, the motivation it brought to the awardees as well as the environmental actors in general has been very significant. The Green Award has recently instituted a media category awarding individual journalists and media institutions working on tourism and environment in collaboration with Ethiopian Sustainable Tourism Alliance (ESTA).
