Strategic Climate Institutions Program (SCIP): Media

April 2013 – July 2015
All Regions
DFID UK-Aid, The Royal Norwegian Embassy, The Royal Danish Embassy

SCIP is a four year initiative channeling GBP 9.5 million from DFID UK-Aid, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Royal Danish Embassy to support all Ethiopian stakeholders including government, civil society, private sector, research organizations and other development partners to respond to the challenges of transitioning to a climate resilient green economy. Ethiopia’s changing climate has the potential to hold back or reverse development and could exacerbate social and economic problems. At the same time, climate change and the international response – Such as new funds for low carbon growth – bring opportunities for Ethiopia. There is therefore enormous urgency and potential for action on climate change to deliver multiple co-benefits for the well-being of the population and the country’s economy. In order to minimize the impacts and maximize these opportunities, Ethiopia must plan and prepare a robust, well informed, and well-coordinated institutional response which engage all sectors, all stakeholders and all regions.
